Welcome to my new monthly segment geared towards helping local businesses thrive! My first business that I would like to showcase is CraftBox by Lindsey. Lindsey owns a small business where she creates works of art with wood. Her business solely focuses on building handmade home decor. Lindsey not only works a full time job but she also has three beautiful girls at home. To say that she is doing amazing things is an understatement. Working, raising babies, being a mom and wife, plus her side hustle. Is there anything she cant do? Here is our interview and some photos of her work. If youre interested in seeing more and getting some homemade home decor of your own please visit her facebook page at
How did you get started with your business and why?
I came across this quote awhile back that read, “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” Because the holidays can become a financial strain, the thought of getting a second job had crossed my mind. But that would have meant more time away from my babies and hubby which of course did not sit well with me. My family needed me around and I’d of course go crazy if I had to spend any more time away from them! I mean, it’s bad enough we have to be apart for 8-9 hours out of the day anyways. SO, that’s when I decided to really take a leap of faith and switch up what it was that I had been doing when it comes to my creative brain! I took the gamble, used whatever wood and material I had left in my garage, and decided to make stove covers. I used my personal Facebook page to advertise my work and, BOOM! Because of that little leap of faith I was nonstop busy around the holidays and happy to say that I survived Christmas much better than the years before.
What do you like most about it?
I have really found a passion in being about to build things from scratch. The baseline for my business started out as stove toppers and trays but since I have expanded. My customers have challenged me to think outside of box and make things at their request. I have shocked myself in a way because I never thought I had it in me to make some of things I have.
What has been your biggest struggle so far?
My biggest struggle is balancing full time work, mom life, sleep, and my business. There will never be enough time in the day so I just prioritize the best why I know how. The most important thing I have to tell myself is to not stress and to do the best I can with managing my time. It’ll never be perfect, especially for myself with being a wife and a mother of 3.
Where would you like to see your business in the next year?
I’d love to see myself working a stand at NewBo and/or flea markets. I would also love to see myself advance in my wood working skills. I have finally found a passion in something and with this passion should come with learning more about what it is I am doing and how it’s done.
What has been your favorite project so far?
I will always enjoy making the stove toppers because each one that I have ever made have looked different from the last. All of the beautiful stains and paints are all so fun to use. My ultimate favorite when building the stove toppers are the pretty handles I find for them. I am like a kid in the candy store when it’s time to pick handles for my toppers.
